Mike Thees, husband of new University of Memphis softball coach Windy Thees, remembers the day his wife put her first team through an organized practice.

It was about five years ago at a small, NCAA Division 2 program in Milledgeville, Ga.

A move that had looked so promising, so full of opportunity weeks earlier, suddenly looked as if it might have been a mistake.
