TEMPE, Ariz. - The University of Memphis softball team is one of 22 teams competing in the 2008 Kajikawa Classic hosted by No. 4/5 Arizona State beginning Friday. The tournament features five of the eight 2007 Women's College World Series participants.

Memphis (2-3) will play three Big 12 schools in Texas Tech (0-4), Oklahoma State (3-3) and Nebraska (0-0) as well as nationally ranked tournament host Arizona State (3-1) from the Pac-10 and second-year independent program Idaho State (0-4).

The Tigers will open the tournament on Friday against Texas Tech at 3 p.m. (MST) on the RIP IT Softball NE Field at the Tempe Sports Complex, an off-campus multi-field sports facility. Memphis will then play Oklahoma State on the complex at the Earnhardt's Auto Center SW Field at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the U of M opens up against Arizona State at Farrington Stadium on ASU's campus at 3:30 p.m., followed by Nebraska at 7:30 p.m. Memphis closes the tournament on Sunday against Idaho State at the Tempe Sports Complex Earnhard'ts Auto Center SW Field at 11 a.m.

A native of Phoenix, Kelso played her freshman year at Division II Grand Canyon University in Phoenix and her sophomore year with the 2006 NJCAA National Champion Phoenix College. She prepped at Greenway High School in Phoenix coached by Edward McQuade.

Thees is from Mesa, Ariz., and prepped at Mesa Mountain View High. She was inducted this past year into the school's Hall of Fame. Thees graduated from the high school in 1993 after lettering in both basketball and softball.
