Memphis Hosts Mississippi Valley State Tuesday in Home Opener

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis softball team will open its 2012 home schedule on Tuesday with a single game against Mississippi Valley State at 4 p.m. at the Tiger Softball Complex.
Memphis (2-8) looks to end a six-game losing streak after going winless at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev., last week. The Tigers are 6-0 all-time against Mississippi Valley State and is a perfect 31-0 against teams from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
Last year, the Tigers defeated the Devilettes three times. Memphis won a 5-1 decision in Starkville, Miss., at a tournament hosted by Mississippi State and swept a home doubleheader, 8-0 and 2-0. In six games, MVSU has scored a combined fine runs compared to 30 by the U of M.
The contest begins a six-game home stand for the Tigers who host the Blues City Classic beginning Friday and running through Sunday. The six-team tournament also features Miami-Ohio, Western Illinois, Northern Iowa, Missouri State and Southeast Missouri State.
Single game tickets can be purchased at the gate for $5 for adults 13 and up. Senior citizens and youth ages 6-12 are $3. Children ages 5 and under and U of M students with ID are Free. Youth wearing a youth team jersey get in free.
