Softball Hits Road Again for Tar Heel Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis softball team will hit the road again this weekend, as it travels to Chapel Hill, N.C. Friday-Sunday, March 3-5, for the Tar Heel Invitational, hosted by the University of North Carolina. The U of M is scheduled to face Canisius at 12:30 p.m. Friday before challenging host North Carolina at 3 p.m. The Tigers will then take on Princeton and North Dakota State at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday and South Carolina at 10 a.m. on Sunday. The games against North Carolina, Princeton and South Carolina can be followed on Gametracker through the North Carolina website, www.tarheelblue.collegesports.com. Memphis is coming off a week in which it recorded a 4-2 record in four games at the Adidas Golden Panther Invitational and a double-header at Grambling State. The Tigers went 2-2 at the FIU tournament, logging a 9-2 win over St. John's and a 3-0 blanking of FIU on the first day of the event before falling 4-1 to Notre Dame and 1-0 to Buffalo on day two. The third day of the tournament was then cancelled due to rain and Memphis was awarded the runner-up trophy after earning the #2 seed following pool play. Following the FIU tournament, the U of M traveled to Grambling, La., where it took 14-0 and 22-0 victories to sweep the double-header from Grambling State. With the 4-2 record on the week Memphis pushed its mark to 7-3 on the year.
