Kubesch Selected as C-USA Pitcher of the Week
March 5, 2007 University of Memphis senior Jenna Kubesch was named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week on Monday after going 4-0 with four complete games and not allowing an earned run. The Weimar, Texas, native struck out 23 batters in 28 innings, while only walking two as Memphis went 6-1 on the week and 4-1 in the University of San Diego Tournament. She has not given up a run in 18 consecutive innings. Opponents only hit .147 against Kubesch as she allowed just 15 hit hits. The right hander pitched two two-hit games last week; one against Belmont in a 9-1 win and one against Loyola Marymount in a 3-0 shutout. She did not allow a runner to reach second in the LMU game. Kubesch tossed back-to-back shutouts in wins against LMU and UC Riverside. She also added a scoreless inning in relief against Cal State Northridge and has earned victories in her last five starts. This is Kubesch's second career weekly pitching honor (Apr. 10, 2006). Jessica Johnson is this week's Conference USA Softball Hitter of the Week after leading East Carolina to a 5-0 weekend and the Holiday Inn Express Pirate Clash Championship. Johnson hit .571 for the Pirates and was named the tournament's MVP. The sophomore recorded three multi-hit games and finished 8-for-14 with four doubles, one home run and seven RBI.
