Memphis Travels to Mississippi State for Midweek Meeting

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The University of Memphis softball team (7-12) travels to Starkville, Miss., for a single-game match-up with Mississippi State (14-4) on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at MSU Softball Field.
The Tigers head on the road a day after returning from Hawaii where the team finished 2-4. The week was highlighted by a 5-0 one-hit upset over No. 20/22 Hawaii. Memphis played the Rainbow Wahine in three of the six games.
Junior outfielder Ijiah Hargrove led Memphis offensively with a .467 batting average and three runs scored. She leads the team with a .391 average. Hargrove was named to the Bank of Hawaii Invitational All-Tournament team along with senior second baseman Morgan Mosby and senior shortstop Laura Curtis.
Mosby leads the team in RBI (8) and runs scored (7) and is hitting .333 on the year. She hit a three-run homer against Hawaii to help the Tigers upset its first ranked opponent since 2011.
Mississippi State's junior RHP Alison Owen was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second-consecutive week and was named this week as the College Sports Madness' National Pitcher of the Week. Owen is 8-1 on the season with a 0.47 ERA and has 88 strikeouts in 59 innings pitched.
Sam Lenahan leads the Bulldog offense with a .386 average and five home runs, 17 RBI and 11 runs scored.
The game will mark the third meeting between the two schools with the two previous games coming last season. The Tigers are 0-2 all-time against the Bulldogs and 0-1 in Starkville.

Following the game, Memphis will travel to El Paso, Texas, to begin Conference USA play with a three-game series at UTEP on Saturday and Sunday.
