MEMPHIS - The University of Memphis will host a three-game series with Marshall to open Conference USA play for both teams at the Tiger Softball Complex beginning Sunday. The two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday and close out the series with a single game on Monday at noon.

The series originally was set to begin on Saturday, but inclement weather pushed the games back a day.

Memphis enters the weekend 11-8 with a two-game winning streak, while Marshall is 8-10 and have lost four-straight.

The Tigers swept a midweek doubleheader with Central Arkansas on Wednesday, winning the opening game 9-1 in six innings and coming back to earn a 5-4 ninth inning victory in game two. Memphis had a doubleheader with Alcorn State postponed on Tuesday until a yet to be determined date due to inclement weather.

The Thundering Herd finished 0-4 at the 2008 Frost Classic hosted by UT-Chattanooga last week. Marshall lost 10-4 to Kentucky, 11-6 to Buffalo, 9-3 to Wright State and 6-5 to the tournament host. Marshall seniors Rachel Folden and Deanna Tourville were selected to the all-tournament team.

Marshall returns all nine position starters, including Folden, the team's three-time All-American catcher. Senor Samantha Rodriguez and Folden were named to the 2008 C-USA Preseason Team, and the team was selected to finish fifth in the league.

Memphis is 1-6 all-time against Marshall and lost all four games to the Thundering Herd last season. The Tigers were swept in a three-game series in Huntington, W.Va., and were knocked out of the C-USA Championship tournament in Orlando, Fla., last year, 1-0, by Marshall. The two teams first saw each other in 2006 with a three game series played at Greenbrook Park in Southaven, Miss. Memphis won its only contest in the middle game of the series with a 7-2 victory.

All three games of the series with Marshall can be followed live through GameTracker. Live audio and video is also available through Memphis All-Access with a subscription with Dan O'Brien calling the play-by-play. A link to the livestats and Memphis All-Access can be found at GoTigersGo.com.

Next week Memphis will play a midweek doubleheader at Alabama A&M on Wednesday, March 12. The team will then travel to Rock Hill, S.C., to participate in its final regular season tournament of the season at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational beginning on Friday, March 14. Memphis will play Gardner-Webb, Providence, Vermont and Furman in the three-day tournament with a championship bracket being played on the final day.
