Memphis Hosts Midweek Contests with Samford and Alcorn State Tigers Host Single Game with Samford on Tuesday

MEMPHIS - The University of Memphis softball team hosts three midweek games beginning with a game against Samford (9-13) on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Tigers Softball Complex.
The Tigers (11-17) will then host a doubleheader with Alcorn State (1-13) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The three games are part of a six game home stand this week for Memphis. The Tigers close out the week with a three-game series with UAB on Saturday and Sunday.

Memphis Splits Doubleheader at Samford
Memphis split a doubleheader with Samford on Tuesday, winning the first game, 11-4, and falling in the second, 5-0. After struggling at the plate recently, the Tigers' bats came alive, collecting 11 runs on 19 hits in the two games at Bulldog Field. Memphis is now 7-23 on the season, while Samford is 6-21.
Memphis enters the seventh week of the season with an 11-17 overall record and 3-3 in conference play.
The Tigers host their busiest home week of the season with six games at the Tigers Softball Complex.
Senior Morgan Mosby led the team in week six, hitting .583 with three RBI, three runs scored and two doubles.
Mosby leads the team with a .345 average, 12 RBI, two home runs and is tied for the team lead with senior Lelani Bernardino in runs scored with 10.
Junior Ellen Roberts leads the team in the circle with a 3.36 ERA. She is 5-11 with 91 strikeouts in 108.1 innings pitched.
Sophomore Jordan Richwood ranks in the top 10 nationally in strikeouts per seven innings with 9.8 and has 79 K's in 56.1 innings. She is 5-5 on the season with a 3.85 ERA.
Memphis is 9-2 this season when scoring three runs or more.
The Tigers lead the conference with 15 caught stealing by.
Laura Curtis has the team's longest current reached base streak at three games.

Memphis Run-Rules Alcorn State Twice in Doubleheader Sweep
Sparked by a couple big innings and strong pitching, the University of Memphis softball team outscored Alcorn State 18-0 in a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers (14-29) earned a 10-0 victory in a five-inning run-rule in game one over the Braves (7-29) and then won game two 8-0 behind a five-inning one-hit shutout by freshman Jordan Richwood.
Samford is 9-13 with a 1-5 record in the Southern Conference. Last year the Bulldogs finished 14-42 and 6-18 in conference play.
Samford's final RPI in 2012 ranked 221st.
Sophomore pitcher Mollie Hanson was the SoCon Pitcher of the Week on March 12 after throwing a no-hitter against UNCG, but she did not pitch over the weekend in a three-game series at Appalachian State.
Hanson leads the team with a 1.76 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 83.2 innings. She is 7-8 on the season.
Senior Misha Aldridge (2-1, 4.00 ERA, 28 IP) and sophomore Shelby Scott (0-3, 6.14 ERA, 21.2 IP) received the majority of innings in the circle last week.
Senior Alex Adams leads the team with a .288 average, 10 RBI and has two home runs and seven runs scored.
Freshman Callie Brister leads the team in runs scored with 11 and home runs with three.

Memphis is 7-3 all-time against the Southern Conference.
Coach Natalie Poole is 94-73 all-time against the SoCon, competing in the conference as the head coach at Georgia Southern from 2002-08.
Samford is the only opponent the Tigers will face in 2013 from the SoCon.

Memphis split a doubleheader with Missouri State on Tuesday. The Tigers took game one 5-3, but fell 16-5 in game two.
The Bears scored 12 runs, including seven unearned, in the final two innings of the game.
The Tigers lost all three-games in their conference home opener to No. 20 Tulsa.
Memphis and Tulsa went seven scoreless innings in game one, before Tulsa scored the game's first run in the eighth inning. The Golden Hurricane scored four runs in the inning and won 4-2, despite the Tigers scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Memphis hosts a doubleheader with Alcorn State on Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m.
The Tigers host a three-game C-USA series with UAB next Saturday and Sunday.
