Memphis Travels To Jackson State for Midweek Doubleheader

MEMPHIS - The University of Memphis softball team will travel to Jackson State for a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 4 p.m. at the JSU Softball Complex.
The games will mark the first meeting between Memphis (14-20, 3-6 C-USA) and Jackson State (15-21, 4-1 SWAC), although the two teams appeared in the same Tuscaloosa NCAA Regional in 2011. The regional appearance marked the first for both schools. Memphis went 1-2 in the regional with games against Chattanooga and Alabama.
Memphis is 36-2 all-time against teams from the Southwestern Athletic Conference and recently swept a doubleheader at home against Alcorn State last week.
Last week, the U of M went 3-3 at home and was swept in a three-game conference series by UAB. Senior infielder Morgan Mosby led the team in the week with a .353 average and had three RBI and two runs scored. Junior outfielder Ijiah Hargrove led the team in RBI with four and runs scored with fived, while hitting .313
Mosby leads the team this season with a .346 batting average, 15 RBI and 12 runs scored. Senior shortstop Laura Curtis leads the team with eight doubles and has six RBI, nine runs scored and is hitting .270.
In the circle, junior RHP Ellen Roberts (7-13) leads the team with a 3.43 ERA and has 112 strikeouts in 126.2 innings pitched. Sophomore RHP Jordan Richwood (6-6) ranks 12th in the nation with 9.8 strikeouts per seven innings and has a 3.84 ERA with 104 strikeouts in 74.2 innings.
Jackson State owns wins this season against UTEP and Texas Tech and has won five-straight heading into the week.
JSU senior infielder Sabeana Romero leads the tea with a .337 average and has 15 RBI and 17 runs scored. As a team, Jackson State is hitting .266 with 145 runs scored in 36 games.
Junior pitcher Breea Jamerson (12-14) leads JSU in the circle with a 3.40 ERA and has 69 strikeouts and 52 walks in 156.2 innings. Senior pitcher Jasmine Warren (3-5) has shared the staff pitching duties and has a 6.80 ERA with 28 strikeouts and 33 walks in 57.2 innings. As a team, Jackson State has a 4.80 ERA with 102 strikeouts in 226 innings pitched.
Following the doubleheader, Memphis will travel to Huntington, W.Va., for a three-game series at Marshall on Friday and Saturday.
