Memphis falls to Marshall, 6-0
The University of Memphis softball team dropped a 6-0 decision to Marshall on Sunday afternoon as the Thundering Herd swept the three-game series at the Tiger Softball Complex.

On the flip side, Marshall (20-12, 6-3 C-USA) has won a program best 10-straight games and are undefeated at home this year. The Thundering Herd are 9-0 at home this season and have won their last 17-home games dating back to last year.

Last season, Memphis was swept at home by Marshall and held scoreless in the three-game series. The Herd won two 1-0 games in the opening doubleheader and finished the series with a 6-0 win.

The Tigers have won two of the past three series with Marshall, but the Herd holds an all-time series advantage of 15-5. Last time the two teams met in Huntington, W.Va., in 2011, Memphis swept a shortened series with a pair of wins. The third game of the series did not meet the regulation minimum of five innings due to a drop dead time set for the Tigers' departure.

The two wins in 2011 at Marshall are the only ones on the road for Memphis in the series. The Tigers began the series 0-6 on the road with Marshall earning sweeps in 2007 and 2009.

Heading into the weekend, Memphis is led offensively by senior infielder Morgan Mosby who leads the team with a .336 batting average. Mosby also leads the team with 15 RBI and two home runs. Senior outfielder Lelani Bernardino and junior outfielder Ijiah Hargrove lead the team with 14 runs scored, while senior infielder Laura Curtis is the team leader in doubles with 10. Curtis also leads the team in conference play with a .423 batting average.

In the circle, Memphis has a team 3.77 ERA with 245 strikeouts in 239.1 innings. Junior RHP Ellen Roberts (7-14) leads the team with a 3.43 ERA and has 118 strikeouts with 53 walks in 132.2 innings. Sophomore RHP Jordan Richwood (6-7) ranks 14th in the nation in strikeouts per seven innings with 9.8 and has struck out 108 batters in 79.2 innings.

Marshall is hitting .269 as a team and led by freshman outfielder Kaelynn Green who is batting .344. senior first baseman Alysia Hively leads the team in RBI with 17 and home runs with six, while senior infielder Bri Anna Hope leads the squad in runs with 18. The Thundering Herd rank fifth in the nation in stolen bases per game with 2.5 and have stolen 84 of 105 attempts.

In the circle, senior RHP Andi Williamson has pitched 176.1 of 213 innings for Marshall and is 19-11 on the season. She has struck out 231 batters with 104 walks and has a 2.38 ERA. Williamson ranks third in the nation in victories and 23rd in strikeouts per seven innings with 9.1.

Marshall's senior third baseman Jazmine Valle also holds some Memphis ties. Her older sister Janelle Valle pitched four years for the Tigers (2008-11). The two faced each other on the collegiate field one time in 2011 with Jazmine hitting a home run off of her sister.
