Memphis Travels to Middle Tennessee for Midweek Doubleheader
April 3, 2007
For Immediate Release
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The last time the University of Memphis took on Middle Tennessee State in softball senior Jenna Kubesch threw a 1-0 no-hitter. The Lady Tigers shutout the Blue Raiders in February at the Easton Tiger Classic hosted by LSU behind Kubesch's third career no-no.
Memphis (21-12, 3-5 C-USA) again will have the opportunity to attempt to put up a couple more W's as MTSU (16-19, 5-5 Sun Belt) hosts the Lady Tigers in a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m. at Blue Raider Field.
But victories definitely do not come easy for either team. In the three games between the two schools, a single run has decided all the games. Memphis holds the advantage, winning two contests with a victory this season and a split at home last year.
The Blue Raiders are led by freshman southpaw Lindsey Vander Lugt who has 12 of the team's 16 victories and carries a 3.34 ERA with 96 strikeouts in 165.1 innings. Sophomore Samantha Floyd and junior Amy Candioto both have split the other 12 starts and have a combined 4-6 record.
As a team, MTSU has similar offensive numbers to Memphis. The Blue Raiders are hitting a percentage point better with a .272 average, are equal in home runs with 26 and have 11 more runs scored with 152. Sophomore outfielder Martha Davis is near the top in every offensive category and leads the team with a .347 batting average with 16 RBI, four home runs and 18 runs scored.
Free live audio and live stats are available for the game. Live stats can be accessed through Gametracker and the audio stream will be provided by Middle Tennessee. Links to the live broadcasts can be found at GoTigersGo.com.
