Softball Travels to Louisiana to Face UL-Monroe

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -The University of Memphis softball team wraps up their 11-game road swing tomorrow with a 4 p.m. CT game in Monroe, La., against UL-Monroe.
Memphis (18-26, 6-9 C-USA) defeated UL-Monroe (16-20, 3-8 Sun Belt) 6-1 last season at home in the team's first-ever meeting. The Tigers put together a five-run fifth inning off five hits to break a 1-1 tie and extend their winning streak to four games. Memphis is 0-3 this season against Sun Belt teams with two losses to North Texas at the Texas Classic in February and one loss to Western Kentucky at the Bank of Hawai'i Invitational last month.
The Tigers compiled a 4-1 record last week and are currently on a four-game winning streak. Memphis dropped a 7-0 decision to Belmont before coming back to win 2-0 in game two of a doubleheader. Last weekend, the Tigers swept Southern Miss for the second time in school history by outscoring the Golden Eagles 35-10 in the three-game series. In game two of the series, Memphis defeated USM 19-1 in five innings as the Tigers tied a Conference USA record for runs in a conference game by matching UAB's total against Charlotte on Apr. 24, 2005. The 19 runs also tied for second in school history when Memphis put up 19 runs against Grambling in its inaugural season in 2006.
Freshman outfielder Hannah Harrell led the Tigers at the plate last week with nine hits, four runs and two RBI to post a .600 batting average. Freshman infielder Cierra Mangum also had an impressive week, hitting .500 with eight hits, five runs and four RBI. Senior outfielder Lelani Bernardino and junior catcher Amber Lindahl hit over .400 on the week as Bernardino recorded nine hits, five runs, four RBI and two triples for a .450 average, while Lindahl hit 429 with six hits, four runs and three RBI.
Senior infielder Morgan Mosby leads Memphis this season with a .319 batting average and a .422 slugging percentage. The Hernando, Miss. native has also put together a team-best 43 hits and 17 RBI in 41 games this season. Junior RHP Ellen Roberts (9-17) leads the Tigers with a 3.42 ERA in the circle with 16 complete games and 138 strikeouts in 161.2 innings pitched. Sophomore RHP Jordan Richwood (8-8) ranks 18th in the nation in strikeouts per seven innings with 129 strikeouts in 99.2 innings pitched.
The Warhawks went 0-3 last week against Florida International in conference play. ULM is led by senior infielder Janel Salanoa, who has a team-best .337 batting average, 32 hits, 21 runs and 17 stolen bases. Sophomore utility player McKenzie Miller has recorded a .329 average with 28 hits and 16 runs. Miller is also 14-for-14 in stolen bases this season.
In the circle, sophomore RHP Haylie Wilson (7-11) leads the Warhawks with a 4.08 ERA. Wilson has pitched 118.1 innings this season, allowing 142 hits, 94 runs while striking out 44 batters. Junior RHP Stephanie Routzon (9-8) has also seen much time in the circle for ULM with 95.1 innings pitched. Routzon has allowed 116 hits and 82 runs along with 43 strikeouts.
The Tigers return home this weekend to host UCF in a three-game conference series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. The series finale will take place Sunday at noon.
