Lady Tigers Host Doubleheader with Alcorn State on Thursday

MEMPHIS - The University of Memphis softball team will host a doubleheader with Alcorn State on Thursday beginning at 3 p.m. at the UM Softball Complex on the Park Avenue Campus. The two teams were originally set to play each other in February, but inclement weather postponed the event.
Memphis, 23-16 and 3-8 in Conference USA, will look to snap its longest losing streak of the season at four games against Alcorn State (12-32, 5-7 SWAC). The Lady Tigers are 8-0 all-time against SWAC opponents and 2-0 this season.
The Lady Tigers enter the week ranked 58th in RPI and 72nd in strength of schedule. The RPI ranks fifth among C-USA schools. Memphis is averaging 4.3 runs per game, while allowing 3.9 runs to its opponents.
Memphis is led in hitting by senior first baseman Kara Ross who is hitting .327 with 28 RBI and three home runs. After hitting a solo shot against No. 1 Tennessee, Ross has a four-game hitting streak entering the midweek double dip. Senior third baseman Bridgette McNulty is tied for the conference lead in walks with 33 and ranks eighth nationally in walks per game with a .87 average. Sophomore Leila Dolfo is second in C-USA in doubles and ranks 14th nationally in with a .37 average per game.
Alcorn State comes to Memphis with a 241 RPI rank and is 3-7 in its last 10 games. The Lady Braves have one victory against a top 25 opponent, beating then #9 Louisiana-Lafayette, 5-4. Alcorn State is averaging 3.3 runs per game, while giving up 5.6.
