MEMPHIS - The University of Memphis softball team hosts its final home midweek game of the season on Tuesday with a single game against Central Arkansas at 5 p.m.

The Tigers (20-28, 8-10 C-USA) won two out of three games at home against UCF this past weekend. The Knights came into Memphis with an RPI ranking of No. 62 and became the second and third wins for the Tigers over top 100 RPI opponents.

Memphis will look for its fourth win of the season over the top 100 with UCA who entered last week ranked No. 74 with a 27-15 overall record and 8-8 in the Southland Conference.

Tigers Sweep Doubleheader with Central Arkansas
University of Memphis softball sophomore pitchers Kimber Bossom and Janelle Valle held Central Arkansas to four combined hits in a doubleheader sweep over the Bears at the Tiger Softball Complex on Wednesday. The Tigers (10-8) won the opening game, 5-2, and then scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth of game two to win 9-1 in five innings.


Central Arkansas boasts a win this season over No. 18 Tulsa, beating the Golden Hurricane in Conway, Ark., 1-0. Last week, the Bears split a doubleheader at Nicholls State in a weather-shortened weekend.

The Tigers have dominated the series between the two schools and boasts a 4-0 all-time record with all four games played in Memphis. The two teams haven't met in the regular season since 2009. Memphis has outscored UCA 28-8 in the series and has a .361 batting average with a 1.04 ERA against the Bears.

Junior RHP Ellen Roberts (11-18) enters the week as the reigning Conference USA Pitcher of the Week. She allowed just one earned run in 24.1 innings last week and earned a pair of victories against UCF.

Senior outfielder Lelani Bernardino led the Tigers last week with a .462 batting average and had a .563 on-base percentage. She scored a run in all three games against UCF and had two RBI. Bernardino is hitting .282 on the season and leads the team with a .403 on-base percentage and 22 runs scored.

Freshman third baseman Cierra Mangum has also been hot recently. She hit .455 last week with a .600 on-base percentage. Mangum is hitting a team-best .341 in conference play with 10 runs scored and nine RBI. She is hitting .245 on the season and leads the team with 24 walks.

UCA sophomore infielder Lissa Avitia is hitting .400 with 23 RBI and 23 runs scored. Bear's freshman outfielder Sam Forrest and freshman second baseman Sarah Bigej lead the team in RBI with 31. The Bears are hitting .310 with 31 home runs in 42 games and rank fourth in the country with 1.95 doubles per game.

In the circle, UCA senior RHP Kelsie Armstrong leads the team with a 20-9 record and has a 1.94 ERA with 237 strikeouts in 188 innings. The team has a combined 3.13 ERA with 283 strikeouts in 264 innings.

Following the game with UCA, Memphis will hit the road for a midweek game at Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Tigers will then travel to Greenville, N.C., for a three-game series at East Carolina on Saturday and Sunday.
