Kubesch Named C-USA Pitcher of the Week
April 16, 2007
For Immediate Release IRVING, Texas - Conference USA selected University of Memphis senior Jenna Kubesch as its softball Pitcher of the Week on Monday. The honor is the second of the season for Kubesch and her third career selection. The Weimar, Texas, native earned the selection after tossing her fourth career no-hitter and second of the season against Alcorn State. In just two seasons, she is tied for fourth all-time in C-USA career no-hitters. The senior struck out a Memphis-record 13 batters in the game and finished the week 2-0 with 25 strikeouts and a 1.19 ERA. The 7-0 no-hit effort against Alcorn State is her fourth shutout of the season. Kubesch also pitched an inning of relief in the first game with the Lady Braves and allowed no hits, while striking out the side. The right-hander compiled nine-consecutive hitless innings before giving one up in the second inning of the first game with East Carolina. Kubesch is just five strikeouts away from setting a new season career high and leads the team with 154 K's and is fifth in the league. She is fourth in the conference in victories with a 16-7 record and a 2.67 ERA with a 4.8 strikeout to walk ratio. Southern Miss freshman Megan Hill claims this week's Conference USA Softball Hitter of the Week accolades after hitting .667 for the week and 1.000 in the Golden Eagles' two-game series against conference foe UTEP. Hill was walked four times, once intentionally by the Miners, but went 4-for-4 with a single, double, triple and home run when she saw pitches to hit. Her home run in game one sent the game into extra innings, where Southern Miss eventually grabbed the 4-3 win.
