ITTA BENA, Miss. - The University of Memphis softball team travels to Mississippi Valley State for a single game at 5 p.m. on Wednesday night.

The Tigers (20-29) make their first trip to Itta Bena, Miss., after falling 1-0 in 10 innings at home against Central Arkansas on Tuesday night. Memphis has been involved in six-straight one-run games and 14 on the season. The U of M is 3-3 in the last six games and 8-6 overall in one-run games this year.

Memphis Falls to Mississippi Valley State, 8-1
The University of Memphis softball team dropped its home opener 8-1 to Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday evening.

Yesterday's game marked the fifth extra inning game of the season for Memphis. The Tigers are still looking for their first win in extra frames and have had three of the contests go into the 10th inning or later. The last three extra inning games have all ended with a 1-0 score.

Senior outfielder Lelani Bernardino enters the game with a career high 11-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 14-straight games. The hitting streak ranks tied for third in school history. Bernardino is hitting .279 with a .398 on-base percentage and leads the team with 22 runs scored.

Mississippi Valley State is 16-24 on the season and 7-3 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The Delta Devils are hitting .262 on the season and average 4.6 runs per game. In the circle, MVSU has a 3.93 ERA with 261 strikeouts in 247.2 innings.

Senior infielder Alexandria Robertson leads MVSU with a .426 batting average and has hit 12 home runs with 45 RBI and 34 runs scored. Senior pitcher Alicia Lorenz (7-13) leads the team with a 3.51 ERA and has struck out 151 batters in 129.2 innings.

Memphis leads the all-time series with Mississippi Valley State, 6-1. The Tigers won the first six games in the series before falling 8-1 at home to the Delta Devils last year.

The Tigers are 36-4 all-time against the SWAC and 2-2 this season with a doubleheader sweep at home against Alcorn State and a pair of losses at Jackson State.

Following the midweek game, Memphis will travel to Greenville, N.C., for a three-game series at East Carolina on Saturday and Sunday.
