Janelle Valle Selected to Capital One Academic All-District First Team
May 6, 2011
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis softball senior pitcher Janelle Valle was named to the Capital One Academic All-District IV First Team on Friday. The teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the floor and in the classroom. First-team academic all-district honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month. Valle is the second Memphis softball player to earn first team honors and fourth student-athlete to be selected to the district team. Former standout pitcher Jenna Kubesch was also a first team selection in 2006 and 2007. Valle is the first Memphis player to be honored since Lindsay Kelso and Tori Gross earned second and third team all-district selections in 2008. The Lake Elsinore, Calif., native will graduate this week with a degree in biology and a minor in criminal justice. Valle carries a 3.91 GPA and was a Conference USA All-Academic Team selection in 2009 and 2010. Valle enters the final weekend in regular season play with a 6-2 record and a 1.57 ERA. She ranks seventh in C-USA in ERA, fifth in fewest runs allowed with 31, second in fewest earned runs allowed with 17 and sixth in fewest walks allowed with 30. Valle has three shutouts and a one hitter during her senior campaign. She was named the C-USA Pitcher of the Week after helping Memphis win two out of three games at East Carolina.
