Kubesch Earns Third C-USA Pitcher of the Week Honor

For Immediate Release IRVING, Texas - University of Memphis senior Jenna Kubesch was named the Conference USA Softball Pitcher of the Week on Monday after earning two key victories against UCF. The Weimar, Texas, native registered an ERA of 0.39 and tallied 22 strikeouts in 18 innings of work, and her wins contributed to the series sweep that clinched the sixth and final spot into the 2007 C-USA Softball Championship presented by Coca-Cola. Kubesch was credited with the victory in five of the Tigers' six conference wins to end the season. Over the weekend, the senior earned two 2-1 victories over conference ERA leader Allison Kime. Kubesch held opponents to a .127 batting average and struck out 21 in 18 innings of work with only two walks. The right-hander pitched all 11 innings in a 2-1 opening series victory and didn't allow an earned run in the game with 11 strikeouts and five hits. She threw a perfect six innings in the series finale, retiring the first 18 consecutive batters before allowing a bunt single in the seventh. Kubesch struck out 10 in the game with three hits and no walks. In the last two crucial weeks, Kubesch is 6-1 with a 0.68 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 51.1 innings of work. The weekly honor is the fourth of Kubesch's career, her third in 2007 (Mar. 5, Apr. 16, and May 7). Laurie Wagner of top-seeded Houston is this week's C-USA Hitter of the Week after hitting .750 (3-for-4) with a home run, five RBI and a 1.750 slugging percentage as Houston took two of three games from Marshall. Four of Wagner's eight plate appearances during the weekend produced an RBI, including all three of her trips to the plate in the middle game of the series.
