Laura Curtis Named to C-USA Softball All-Academic Team

IRVING, Texas- University of Memphis senior shortstop Laura Curtis was named to the 2013 Conference USA Softball All-Academic Team on Tuesday.
Curtis is one of 13 players selected by the sports information contacts at each of the nine softball schools. Seven seniors, four juniors and two sophomores were named to the list.
In order to be eligible for the recognition, student-athletes must hold a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, be of at least sophomore academic standing and have competed in at least 60 percent of games this season as a starter or key reserve.
Curtis has started 58 of the Tigers' 59 games this season and is tied for second in C-USA with 13 doubles. She ranks tied for third in the league in sac bunts with 10 and is second on the team in RBI with 19 and third in runs scored with 19. The Chattanooga native is second on the team with 23 walks and had 11 RBI in conference play with 11 runs scored and four doubles. She has had seven multiple-hit games this season and four multiple-RBI games, including three contests with a season high three RBI.
Curtis is graduating in August with a degree in exercise and sport science and holds a 3.61 cumulative GPA.
She is the seventh selection for Memphis on the All-Academic team and fifth different Tiger to earn the honor. The last players to be named to the team came were Heather Mott and Janelle Valle in 2011.
