Softball Australia announced the 2014 Australian Women’s Softball Team and Ellen Roberts will represent the Aussie Spirit at the ISF XIV Women’s World Championship in Haarlem, Netherlands from Aug. 15-24.
The Australian native is the first Tigers softball alum to be selected by her national team. Roberts ended her four-year career at Memphis with 25 school pitching records, which included most wins (41) and most strikeouts (488).
Prior to the Softball World Championship, the Australian team will head off on a month-long tour to play lead up games against professional teams in Japan. The Aussie Spirit will then participate at the Italian Softball Week International Tournament in Azzano, Italy from Aug. 6-10.
The Aussie Spirit Australian Open Women’s team won the bronze medal at the previous ISF Open Women’s World Championship in 2012. The event occurs every two years and was last held in Canada.
