Tiger Softball To Play Two Games Versus NPF All-Stars
Aug. 19, 2010
Memphis, Tenn. - University of Memphis head softball coach Windy Thees announced Thursday that the Tiger softball team will play a pair of exhibition games versus the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) All-Stars on Friday, Sept. 10 and Saturday, Sept. 11 at First Tennessee Fields in Cordova, Tenn.
"I'm excited to get the team in to begin fall practices and to be able to play this level of competition will be great for our team," said Thees. "It is a little nerve wracking to play this early in the fall because of the limited amount of practice, but the players are excited to play against former college softball players who have furthered their careers."
The first of two games versus the NPF All-Stars will begin at 7 p.m. on Sept. 11 at First Tennessee Fields. First pitch for the Tigers on Sept. 11 is set for 6 p.m.
"We have a large squad this year, so to be able to play two games versus the NPF All-Stars will allow us to get everybody into a game and have this experience," said Thees. "It is not about winning or losing games in the fall. It is all about getting these girls out there and getting playing time. Playing against the talented NPF All-Stars will be great for our young players to see the difference in the speed of game here at the college level."
The NPF All-Stars and the Tiger softball team will host a skills clinic on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
"It is so great to be able to have our players get out in the community and teach the game," said Thees. "For our players to teach the game alongside the NPF All-Stars will be a great experience and our players will learn so much from that."
