Oct. 4, 2012
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -The University of Memphis softball team will travel to Clarksville, Tenn., on Sunday to take on Austin Peay in a doubleheader slated to begin at 2 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. meeting between the two teams.
The Tigers began their fall season last Friday as the team swept Christian Brothers, 9-0 and 4-1, as Tigers pitchers combined to strike out 24 batters. Memphis' offense also came alive with 20 hits on the night as five Tigers contributed at least two hits.
Last Saturday, the Tigers played the NPF All-Stars as part of the Back to School Tour, falling 5-1. Memphis trailed 2-0 through five innings until two errors by the Tigers helped NPF plate three more runs for a 5-0 lead through six. The Tigers added their lone run of the game in the seventh inning as junior Ashleigh King drove a two out, 0-2 pitch to the left field wall to bring home freshman Wheeler Hill.
Austin Peay opened the fall season on Friday, Sept. 21 with a 3-2 loss to Chattanooga State. The Lady Govs followed the loss up with a win later that night with a 2-1 victory over Freed-Hardeman. Since then, the team has fallen to Rend Lake Community College, 5-0, and Union, 3-0.
The Tigers' last meeting against the Lady Govs goes back to April 25, 2007 as the Tigers came out with a 2-1 win in eight innings.
