MEMPHIS - SBEC pitcher/utility Morgan Mosby signed a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday with the University of Memphis softball team. Mosby becomes the first signee in the Tigers' 2010 recruiting class.
Mosby, an area prospect from Hernando, Miss., is a two-time all-region pitcher/shortstop and earned all-state as a junior in 2008. She also was named the regionals MVP during her sophomore campaign in 2007. A three-time letterwinner at SBEC coached by Mark Duggin, Mosby also has lettered three years in basketball.
As a sophomore, Mosby helped SBEC become the first small school to win regionals in softball, and in 2008, the school finished as the state runner-up in both softball and basketball. At the state championships in 2008, Mosby struck out 18 batters in the first game. She then shut out Davidson Academy and hit a solo home run to force a final state championship game. Mosby finished the season with a 17-6 record with 182 strikeouts, while hitting .610.
Through three seasons at SBEC, Mosby is 33-11 with 361 strikeouts. She also totals 18 home runs and a .573 career batting average.
Mosby played summer travel ball with the Bluff City Bombers and helped the team become the ASA State Champions in 2007. She also helped the Bombers become the USFA state champs in 2008.
Mosby is the daughter of Marty and Mindy Mosby. Her brother, Mason Mosby, is a senior on the football and baseball team at Rhodes College and her father, Marty, is a Memphis football letterwinner (1985).
