MEMPHIS - Ashleigh King signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Memphis softball team it was announced by Tiger head coach Windy Thees on Thursday. King is the first Memphis softball 2010-11 signee during the early signing period, which began on Wednesday.

A native of St. Louis, Mo., King lettered four seasons as a shortstop and center fielder with Cor Jesu Academy coached by Olivia Reichert. During her senior year in 2009, she batted .500 with a .965 fielding percentage, 15 RBI and a .794 slugging percentage.

King is a four-time all-district, all-conference and all-region player who was named the team's MVP during her senior year and was the 110 Percent recipient her freshman season. The team's captain during her junior and senior years, King holds a career .379 batting average with seven home runs, 55 RBI and a .605 slugging percentage.

Besides leading Cor Jesu to the conference championship in two of her four seasons, King is also the state record holder for most home runs in a game with three accomplished during her freshman year.

A member of the National Honors Society, TREND (Turning Resources & Energy in New Directions) and Latin Honors, King carries a 4.10 GPA at Cor Jesu. She was named as a Get in the Game Saint Louis magazine player of the month for October 2009.

Since 2008, King has played travel ball with the St. Louis Fusion Gold coached by J.D. Robertson. As the team captain, she hit .489 with a .521 on-base percentage and helped the club finish 49-16 in 2009.

King is the daughter of Greg and Jill King. Her father, Greg, was an all-conference baseball player at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
