MEMPHIS - Infielder Cierra Mangum signed her national letter of intent to play softball for the University of Memphis head coach Natalie Poole announced on Thursday.

Mangum becomes the second signee for the 2012-13 signing class joining Texas catcher Georganna Goodwin.

"We are very excited to have Cierra joining the Tiger program," Poole said. "She is a good defender who is versatile. We also like what we feel she will contribute offensively to our team. I believe she is going to help us get better as we look to become a stronger team every year."

A standout at Oñate High School in Las Cruces, N.M., Mangum was coached by Rick Robinson. The senior has lettered three years as a third baseman and shortstop and was named an all-district first team selection as a sophomore and an all-district honorable mention as a freshman.

As a junior last year, Mangum hit .542 with 18 RBI 24 runs scored, three home runs and eight doubles. She finished with a .574 on-base percentage and boasted a .932 slugging percentage. Her batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage led the team.

Mangum is currently a travel ball teammate with fellow 2012-13 Memphis signee Georganna Goodwin on the Texas Elite coached by Don Mongillo. She also played with the Arizona Hot Shots from 2008-10 and the Texas Rage from 2005-07.

The honors society member is the daughter of Heath and Angie Mangum.
