MEMPHIS - University of Memphis softball head coach Windy Thees announced on Friday the signing of Florida catcher and first baseman Amber Lindahl. She is the fifth and final player to sign a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period with the Tigers for the 2010-11 season.

A Miracle Sports 2009 6A All-State second team selection out of Park Vista Community High School in Lake Worth, Fla., Lindahl set a school record and led Palm Beach County in RBIs with 40 during her junior season. She also led her team and finished second in the county with a .521 batting average.

"Amber has a cannon for an arm; it's an absolute rocket," Thees said. "She's a great catcher, and an amazing hitter. She hits to all fields really well. She hits for power and was in the top five in several categories down in the state of Florida last year. I'm really excited for Amber to come in and handle a couple of different positions for us."

Under head coach Chuck Layman, Lindahl played catcher, first base and third base for Park Vista. She helped the school finish 27-3 in 2009 before falling to the eventual state champions in the regional final.

The three-time letterwinner who made the varsity team as a freshman carries a .425 career batting average, 73 RBI, 57 runs scored and nine home runs into her senior season. As a junior, Lindahl also led the team or finished second in games played (30), at bats (94), hits (49), runs (30), singles (38), triples (4), home runs (3), total bases (69), slugging percentage (.734) and on-base percentage (.540). She struck out just two times in her 94 at bats.

The first team all-area and first team all-district in 2008 and 2009 was named the West Palm Beach Player of the Week on March 9, 2009 by WPEC-TV CBS 12. Lindahl hit two home runs and a triple in one game last season, including a grand slam.

Beginning in 2008, Lindahl began playing travel ball with the Lady Gators Gold coached by Eric Call. The right hander played catcher, first base and outfield with the club. Before the Gators, she played travel ball in the Calussa Park softball program in West Boynton Beach.

Lindahl also actively participates in Park Vista's marching band and is an accomplished tuba player. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the RHO KAPPA Honor Society.

Lindahl is the daughter of Bill and Uzma Lindahl.
