MEMPHIS - University of Memphis head softball coach Natalie Poole announced Tuesday that Texas outfielder Lindsie Knowles signed her letter of intent to join the Tiger program.

Knowles joins infielder Cierra Magnum and catcher Georganna Goodwin in the Tigers' 2012-13 signing class.

"We're excited about Lindsie coming to be a part of our program," Poole said. "We had a chance to see her play this fall. We were watching a player from another team, and her coach led us to her, and it was a good find for us. We think she is going to help us fill a spot in the outfield and do a great job for us. She's very intelligent, and I expect great things academically as well as athletically."

A native of Celina, Texas, Knowles is a senior at Celina High School coached by Billy Coleman. As a junior, she helped Celina win the 2011 State 3A Championship with a 34-6-2 record. The team finished as the state runner-up in 2009.

Knowles was named to the 2011 all-state team and is a three-time all-district selection. As a freshman, she was named to the 2009 state tournament team. The leadoff hitter for Celina, Knowles boasted a .455 batting average in 2011 and went 7-for-8 against Henderson with two triples in the region semifinals.

Knowles played summer travel ball for nine years with the Texas Glory and two years with the Texas Glory Adkins. Her club team placed 13th out of 64 teams in the 2011 Gold Nationals in 2011.

She is the daughter of Steve and Sharon Knowles. Her sister, Brittanie Knowles, is a junior infielder on the UT Dallas softball team, while her cousin, Meghan Knowles, is a junior first baseman at Louisiana Tech. Knowles is also a member of the Beta Club at Celina High.
