Junior
Fall 2002:
Went 4-4 in singles play during the fall, advancing to the consolation finals of the Varsity Pro Shop Invitational, but was unable to play the finals because the matches were rained out...Had a fall-best three-match win streak after defeated Jill Wirtz from Eastern Illinois to end the Saint Louis tournament and then winning the next 2 matches at SIU-Carbondale...Teamed with freshman Kristin Noble to post a 5-4 mark in doubles play during the fall...Also teamed with Murray Sate's Jamie Lee to advance to the consolation finals of the No. 3 doubles bracket at the Varsity Pro Shop Invite, another match that was rained out...Went 2-1 at the Middle Tennessee Tournament, winning her opening match against UT-Martin's Olivia Shipley, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 and downing Belmont's Katie Kelsey, 6-0, 6-1...Was eliminated from the championship bracket by Ball State's Laura Gerdin, 6-1, 6-2.
Sophomore
Spring 2002:
Went 2-17 at No. 5 singles and teamed with senior Laura Hughes to post a 3-18 mark at No. 3 doubles during the spring...Named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll for a second consecutive year for having a GPA greater than 3.0
Fall 2001:
Posted a 5-5 record in singles...Was 2-3 in doubles when teamed with Sumitra Rao and 2-2 when paired with Laura Hughes...Won the consolation finals of the Purple Aces Invitational in Evansville winning three straight matches after losing in the opening round...Made the semi-finals of the C-USA Fall Championship in C Singles, defeating Courtney Clifford of Charlotte and Kelly Kiehna of Louisville before losing to Sjouke Liem of UAB.
Freshman ( Spring 2001)
Garner was named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll after posting
a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher during her first season of
collegiate tennis...The freshman earned a lot of playing time at
No. 6 singles, struggling in her first season, finishing 1-16
at No. 6 and 0-1 at No. 5...Garner found much more success
when teamed with Sumitra Rao at No. 3 doubles, finishing with
a record of 8-13...She was also 0-1 at No. 3 doubles when
teamed with Laura Hughes.
Fall 2000:
Garner finished her first collegiate semester with a 4-7
record in singles and a 4-8 record in doubles...She advanced
to the consolation finals at the University of Memphis/Varsity
Pro Shop Invitational where she fell 6-3, 6-2...She was 1-0
against Conference USA competition she faced during the fall,
defeating UAB's Kristina Wilson, 7-6, 6-0, for the seventh-place
finish at Middle Tennessee State's tournament in Flight
Five singles...She got her first collegiate singles win
against Northeast Oklahoma's Jennifer Howard, 6-3, 6-2...Garner
teamed with junior Laura Hughes in all her doubles matches...
The duo posted a season-best three-match winning streak,
including two consecutive wins that helped them finish
17th in Flight 2 doubles at MTSU.
Prep: Played No. 1 singles at The Billericay School and was
ranked No. 1 for U16 for the Essex Open Mixed Doubles Champ...Was
the Ladies Singles Champ for the Billericay Lawn Tennis Club Championship
in 1998 and 1999...Garner has won over 30 singles and doubles titles,
in the U13-U18 age groups...In 1998 and 1999, she was 25-3...She has first
team ladies and doubles mixed teams and has assisted with junior
coaching programs for the past three years.
Personal: Born Feb. 6, 1982...Daughter of Roy and Jacqueline Garner...
Enjoys drawing, soccer, movies, being with friends and coaching tennis in her free-time...
Received numerous high school academic honors, including 3A* (A-stars) at Billericay School.
