Memphis meets Tulsa for the third time this season
The Memphis women's tennis team will welcome four teams to The Racquet Club of Memphis, Nov. 2-4, for the Memphis Invitational as Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tulsa and Vanderbilt will be in attendance for the Lady Tigers' final home tournament of the 2012 fall season.
The Memphis Tiger Network caught up with head coach Lee Taylor Walker and a few players to see how the team has been preparing for the weekend.
Sixth all-time in career doubles wins with 70 ... Tied for fifth in single-season doubles wins with 26 in 2011-12 ... Is a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and C-USA Academic Medalist ... Won the doubles title with teammate Courtney Collins at the 2012 Dick Vitale Lakewood Ranch Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic ... Reached the finals in the consolation draws in singles and doubles at the 2011 USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional ... Named C-USA Player of the Week on Apr. 6, 2010.
Fall 2012: Finished 5-7 in singles and 11-4 in doubles ... Collected the most doubles wins on the team ... Won the doubles title with partner Courtney Collins at the Dick Vitale Lakewood Ranch Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic, going 4-0 ... Opened the tournament with an 8-5 victory over No. 36 Brittany Sanders and Julie Sabacinski of Notre Dame ... Defeated Florida's Brianna Morgan and Alexandra Cercone, 8-3, in the championship ... Upset No. 101 Malika Rose of Oklahoma State, 6-4, 6-4, in the opening round of the Dick Vitale Classic ... Went 3-0 in doubles with teammate Caroline Wegner at the Memphis Invitational #1.
Spring 2012: Finished the season with a 13-6 record in singles play and 16-4 in doubles ... Defeated Carmen Borau Ramos of 67th-ranked Kansas State ... Teamed with Courtney Collins at the C-USA Tournament, going undefeated after downing Marshall's Karlyn Timko and Kristina Koprcina, 8-0, and Tulsa's Michelle Farley and Maria Sant'Anna, 8-1 ... Won her opening singles match in the C-USA Tournament against Marshall's Timko, 6-4, 6-3.
Fall 2011: Went 2-1 at the MT Shootout with a dominating 6-0, 6-0, win over Austin Peay's Weronika Kurka and a 6-2, 6-2, victory over WKU's McKinley Mason in the consolation match ... Also competed in doubles at the event, going 3-0 with teammate Courtney Collins ... Competed in the Pre-Qualifying Doubles Draw of the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships with teammate Collins, recording an 8-2 opening-round victory before falling, 8-3, to a team from the University of Texas ... Helped the Tigers achieve the program's best-ever showing at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regionals, reaching the championship matches of both the singles and doubles back draws ... Lost a tough match against the sixth seed in the singles main draw opening round, but advanced all the way to the championship match of the back draw, going 4-1 overall ... Also lost her main draw opening-round doubles match alongside Collins, but tore through the back draw to reach the consolation title match, adding three victories to the team total ... Lost two matches at the June Stewart Invite before earning a win over Belmont's Holliday, 6-1, 6-0 ... Teamed with Andrea Arques-Garcia in the doubles bracket and scored a victory on the consolation side ... Went 3-1 in doubles with Collins to reach the semifinals at the Memphis Collegiate Invite, while posting a 1-3 singles mark.
Spring 2011: Went 11-14 overall and 1-4 in Conference USA, playing mostly at the No. 4 singles position ... Won her only match at the No. 3 spot, a dominating 6-0, 6-0, win over Tennessee State's Khadijah Williams ... Had a season-high, four-match win streak with victories over players from Wofford, Detroit, Illinois State and MTSU ... Also won three-straight matches against players from UT Martin, Troy and Lipscomb ... Defeated UCF's Courtney Griffith, 6-3, 7-5, in league action ... Retired three matches ... Went 12-9 in doubles with teammate Courtney Collins and 0-2 with Kathleen Hawkins ... Combined with Collins to go 9-7 at the No. 1 spot and 3-2 at the No. 2 position ... Also posted a 4-1 doubles mark in C-USA play ... Recorded a season-high, four-match doubles win streak.
Fall 2010: Posted a 2-1 mark at the Memphis Invitational to kick off the tournament portion of the 2010 slate ... Defeated Lauren White from Abilene Christian, 7-5 (3), 6-3 ... Closed out Invite with win over Arkansas State's Tina Ojdanic, 6-2, 6-2 ... Broke up losses to opponents from Alabama and Samford at Roberta Alison Classic with a win over Mississippi State's Vivian Pietraroia, 7-6 (2), 6-2 ... Picked up a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win against MTSU's Taylor Coffey to go 1-2 in Nashville ... Wrapped up season going 0-3 at Midwest Blast ... In doubles, upended Kara Jackson and Alyssa Bellini of Lipscomb, 8-2, with partner Kathleen Hawkins at June Stewart Invitational ... Defeated MTSU's Alex Dachos and Yuiri Nornoto, 8-3.
Spring 2010: Posted a 9-19 mark at the No.4, No. 5, No. 6 singles positions ... Went 4-6 at the No. 6 singles slot ... Named Conference USA Player of the Week after going 4-0 in singles against Tennessee Tech, Louisiana-Monroe, UAB and Middle Tennessee ... Also went undefeated in doubles with Courtney Collins for the week ... In doubles, Collins and Gray led the team with 15 victories ... Collins and Gray went 9-2 at the No. 2 slot ... Picked up conference victories over Southern Miss, Tulane and UAB ... Had big wins against No. 44 Yale and No. 56 William & Mary ... Also defeated foes from Boston College and Missouri.
Fall 2009: Finished with a 2-3 mark overall ... Went 0-1 at the Hoosier Classic with a loss to Middle Tennessee's Taylor Coffey, 6-3, 6-4 ... Picked up win over Indiana's Megan Matter, 6-2, 6-0 at ITA Ohio Valley Regional ... Went 1-2 at the Florida State Invitational ... Picked up a win over Furman's Brooke Mosteller, 7-5, 6-1 ... Lost to Mississippi State's Danielle Terpko, 6-0, 6-2 ... Also fell to UCF's Taylor Dubins, 6-1, 6-1 ... In doubles, teamed with Andrea Arques-Garcia to go 0-2 at ITA Ohio Valley Regional ... Pair fell to Indiana's Leslie Hureau and Myriam Sopel, 8-1 ... Lost to Purdue's Anya Dushkina and Remi Martin, 8-4 ... Went 1-2 with Amanda Brown at Florida State Invitational ... Duo upended Mississippi State's Valeriya Makarycheva and Danielle Terpko, 8-4 ... Pair lost matches to foes from Miami and UCF.
Rated as the No. 3 recruit in the state of Tennessee coming out of high school ... Tennisrecruiting.net also rated her as the 41st-best player in the Southeast Region ... Defeated current teammate Courtney Collins at the Bullfrog Southern Junior Cup at the Champions Club in Lupton City, Tenn., in mid-September of 2008 ... Advanced to the round of 16 at the Bullfrog Southern Designated Tournament in Mobile, Ala., with two victories ... The TSSAA Tennis State Champion in 2008 ... Won the USTA Tennessee Sportsmanship Award in 2006 for her attitude on the court ... The Tennis Athlete of the Year at Siegel High School in Murfreesboro her final three seasons.
