Eye of the Tiger is back and this time you get a chance to go behind the scenes of a women's tennis team practice as they take to the courts at the Racquet Club of Memphis.
The Memphis women's tennis team will welcome four teams to The Racquet Club of Memphis, Nov. 2-4, for the Memphis Invitational as Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tulsa and Vanderbilt will be in attendance for the Lady Tigers' final home tournament of the 2012 fall season.
The Memphis Tiger Network caught up with head coach Lee Taylor Walker and a few players to see how the team has been preparing for the weekend.
Fall 2013: Went 7-6 in singles and 6-5 in doubles ... Began the season with a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 win over Ole Miss' No. 39 Caroline Rohde-Moe at the CCLR Collegiate Invitational ... Advanced to the round of 16 at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional in singles and the quarterfinals in doubles ... Defeated Tennessee's No. 56 Joanna Henderson and Caitlyn Williams, 8-6, in the regional round of 16 with partner Marta Morga ... Opened the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2) win over Notre Dame's No. 117 Jennifer Kellner ... Named co-champion in doubles with partner Liza Tymchenko at the Memphis Collegiate Invite after defeating Tulsa's Samantha Vickers and Isaura Enrique, 8-6.
Spring 2013: Named Conference USA Freshman of the Year after leading Memphis with a 28-9 mark in singles ... Ranked No. 17 in the Ohio Valley Region at the end of the season ... Also selected to the C-USA Third Team Singles ... Her 28 wins rank fifth for single-season singles wins at Memphis ... Tied for a team-high 16 wins in dual matches with a 16-5 record ... Had just three of her 28 wins go to three sets ... Won 11-straight matches from late February through the month of March ... Posted her first win over a ranked opponent in her career with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Georgia's No. 76 Makenzie Craft at the Georgia Invitational ... Defeated Virginia's No. 92 Li Xi, 7-6 (3), 7-5, at No. 3 to help Memphis beat the 16th-ranked Cavaliers ... Took down Florida State's Mia Vriens at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1, to pace the Lady Tigers to a 4-1 win over the Seminoles in the first round of the NCAA Tournament ... Totaled an 11-6 mark in doubles.
Fall 2012: Went 10-4 in singles and 7-4 in doubles with partner Liza Tymchenko ... Won the Memphis Invitational #2 Gray Draw with three straight-set wins ... Went undefeated at the Memphis Invitational #1 with straight-set wins over Loyola Marymount's Reka Rohonyi and UT Martin's Jessica Silva ... Picked up her first win as a Lady Tiger over Colombia's Lizeth Ramirez, 6-1, 6-0, at the Amelia Island 10k ... In doubles, won all four matches at the Memphis Invitational #1 to begin the season.
Graduated from Potter's Wheel Academy in Sarasota, Fla. ... Spent the past seven years training in Bradenton, Fla., reaching as high as No. 250 in the world in the junior rankings ... Produced wins over top-100 ITF world-ranked juniors and top-550 WTA world-ranked women.
