Women's Tennis Wraps Up Second Day of Miami Spring Invite

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The competition got even tougher on the second day of the Miami Spring Invite for the No. 31 University of Memphis women's tennis team as the Lady Tigers faced No. 9 Miami in doubles and No. 16 Vanderbilt in singles.
In doubles, the duo of Alyssa Hibberd and Caroline Wegner almost pulled off their second-straight top-30 win, but fell in a tiebreaker to No. 29 Monique Albuquerque and Clementina Riobueno, 7-6 (3). The freshmen team of Marta Morga and Anki Wind dropped a 6-1 match to No. 55 Stephanie Wagner and Brittany Dubins while Skylar Kuykendall and Liza Tymchenko fell 6-0 to the team of Kelsey Laurente and Melissa Bolivar.
Memphis then faced in-state foe Vanderbilt in singles with Morga highlighting the day for the Lady Tigers after recording a 3-6, 7-5, 10-6 victory over No. 78 Sydney Campbell.
Both Hibberd and Kuykendall fell to ranked opponents as Hibberd dropped a 6-1, 6-2 match to Ohio Valley Region champion and No. 48 Georgina Sellyn, while Kuykendall was upended by No. 102 Ashleigh Antal, 6-3, 6-4. Marie Casares recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win over Tymchenko while Wind fell by the same score to Courtney Colton. Wegner was unable to finish her match as Frances Altick won by default.
The Lady Tigers finish tournament play tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. (ET) with doubles against Texas before facing Miami in singles at 9:30. Fans can follow along with the action here.
