Women's Tennis Downs Austin Peay, 7-0

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -The University of Memphis women's tennis team kept its perfect streak alive on Friday by taking out Austin Peay 7-0. The 68th-ranked Tigers improve to 2-0 and have a clean record in all singles and doubles matchups through the first two duals of 2012, while the Governors fall to 0-2.
The Blue and Gray set the tone right out of the gate in doubles play with two 8-0 victories. Mariya Slupska and Stefanie Mikesz finished first, taking down Weronika Kurka and Ornella Di Salvo at No. 2, and Courtney Collins and Kelly Gray defeated Andra Cornea and Vanessa Tavares at No. 3 to pick up the doubles point for Memphis.
In singles action, Welcher moved the Tigers to 2-0 with her 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Kurka at the fourth slot. Next, No. 90 Slupska upended Di Salvo 6-0, 6-1 at the third position and Hibberd clinched the match for the U of M with her 6-1, 6-0 downing of Tavares.
Nationally-ranked netters Mikesz and Collins both picked up their second singles wins of the season at the top two flights, and Gray closed out the contest against the Lady Govs at the No. 6 spot.
The Tigers will head to Atlanta, Ga., on Sunday for their first bout with a nationally-ranked opponent in No. 13 Georgia Tech. The match is slated for 11 a.m. CT. and live stats will be available HERE.
