Memphis/Ohio State Results Get Acrobat Reader

The Memphis women's tennis team concluded a tough road stretch, which took them from Oklahoma to North Carolina and back west to Missouri, with losses to No. 38 Ohio State, 6-0 and Missouri, 4-1, on Sat., Jan. 23 at the Green Tennis Center in Columbia, Mo. Memphis currently holds a record of 2-4 on the 2010 season.

The Lady Tigers opened Saturday morning's match with the Missouri Tigers with a doubles victory at the No. 3 slot for freshmen Courtney Collins and Kelly Gray over Sofia Ayala and Jamie Mera, 9-8. The win improved Collins and Gray's doubles record to 2-0.

At the No. 1 doubles slot, Marjorie Ondeck and Ashley Murdock fell to Missouri's Kaitlyn Richie and Mallory Weber, 8-4.

At No. 3 doubles, Maria Christensen and Kristen Bleakley defeated Memphis' pair of Amanda Brown and Dara Toulch, 8-5.

In singles, Collins, a top 50 recruit according to tennisrecruiting.net before arriving at the U of M in the fall of 2009, upened Richie, 7-5, 7-5, at the No. 2 slot. Collins is currently ranked as the No. 17 singles player in the Ohio Valley region.

At No. 1 singles, Murdock, a back-to-back All-C-USA selection, took Missouri's Weber to three sets before ultimately losing the match, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.

At the No. 5 spot, Gray, a freshman from Murfreesboro, Tenn., fell to Andrea Lewis, 6-0, 6-4.

At No. 6 singles, Andrea Arques-Garcia took Christensen to three sets, but lost the match, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1.

In the late match on Saturday, the Lady Tigers lost all three doubles matches to No. 38 Ohio State.

At No. 1 doubles, Kelsey Haviland and Cami Hubbs upended Memphis' Murdock and Ondeck, 8-4. Murdock and Ondeck currently have a 1-2 doubles record this season.

At the No. 2 spot, Paloma Escobedo and Christina Keesey took down Toulch and Brown, 8-2. Toulch and Brown fall to 1-3 in doubles on the season.

At No. 3 doubles, Gabby Steele and Kirsten Flower defeated Collins and Gray in a close match, 8-7. Collins and Gray are currently 2-1 in doubles this season.

In singles, 53rd-ranked singles netter, Flower, defeated Murdock, 6-1, 6-2. Murdock is currently 2-4 in singles this season.

At No. 2 singles, Escobedo defeated Collins, 6-4, 6-1. Collins is currently 3-3 in singles this year.

At the No. 3 spot, Ondeck, a senior from Monroe, Conn., forced three sets with Keesey, before losing, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3. Ondeck currently has a 2-3 record in singles.

At No. 4 singles, Haviland upended Brown, 6-2, 6-3. Brown, a native of Whitby, Ontario, is currently 0-4 in singles.

At the No. 5 spot, Steele defeated Gray, 6-0, 6-0. Gray currently holds a single record of 1-5.

The Lady Tigers will return home this weekend for their first match this season at The Racquet Club of Memphis. The Racquet Club recently became the new official home for the University of Memphis women's tennis program. The Lady Tigers will take on Kennesaw State on Jan. 29 at 10 a.m. Memphis' match with Murray State will follow the Kennesaw State match.
