No. 31 Women's Tennis Falls 4-1 to No. 3 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The No. 31 University of Memphis women’s tennis team (1-1) showed some fight against No. 3 North Carolina (4-0) but fell 4-1 to the defending National Team Indoor champions Sunday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The Tar Heels picked up wins at No. 1 and 2 in doubles to clinch the point and take an early 1-0 lead. The No. 12 duo of Jamie Loeb and Hayley Carter defeated Skylar Kuykendall and Marta Morga, 6-0, at No. 2 while No. 10 Caroline Price and Whitney Kay won 6-3 over Alyssa Hibberd and Caroline Wegner at No. 1.
In singles, UNC increased its lead to 3-0 as No. 2 Loeb recorded a 6-1, 6-0 over Stefanie Mikesz at No. 1 while No. 5 Carter posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kuykendall at No. 2.
The Lady Tigers stayed alive as Anki Wind defeated No. 118 Ashley Dai, 7-6, 6-1, at No. 5 for a 3-1 score. The Tar Heels prevented Memphis from getting any closer as Price recorded a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Hibberd at No. 4 to give UNC a 4-1 win.
Wegner was up in her match over No. 88 Kay while Morga was tied with Tessa Lyons when UNC clinched the match.
The Lady Tigers return to action next weekend when they travel to Norman, Okla., to take on Iowa and No. 34 Oklahoma.
