Women's Tennis Has Three-Match Win Streak Snapped

LITTLE ROCK, ARK. - The University of Memphis women's tennis team (3-2 overall, 1-0 C-USA) had its three-match winning streak snapped, 7-0, at Arkansas-Little Rock, Tuesday. Memphis won the No. 3 doubles match when Kristin Noble and Christina Wieser downed Rosario Negrete and Outi Jarvinen, 8-3, but the Trojans answered back with 8-4 wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles to take the doubles point and head into the singles portion of the match up, 1-0. UALR picked up straight set wins at No. 2, 3, 4, and 6 singles, while Memphis managed to take the No. 1 and 4 matches to three sets. Senior Marlene Dirnstorfer suffered her first singles loss of the spring, despite winning the first set 6-4. Cecelia Poveda answered back with a 6-3, 6-2 pair of sets to take the match and improve to 8-0 on the season. Noble also managed to take her singles match to three sets, winning her opening set 7-5, before falling 6-2, 6-1 to Jarvinen at No. 5 singles. With the loss, Memphis falls to 3-2 on the season. The Lady Tigers will look to regroup at home with a pair of non-conference matches this weekend, including a Saturday match against Louisiana-Monroe and a Sunday match against Middle Tennessee. Both matches will be played at 11 a.m. if they can be played outside. If they are forced indoors, the matches will begin at 6 p.m. All outdoor matches are played at the HPER courts, located on the corner of Echles and Spottswood.
