Memphis Bounces Back With 4-1 Win at Southern

BATON ROUGE, La. - - One day after dropping its conference opener, the women's tennis team (3-4, 0-1 C-USA) bounced back with a 4-1 win over host Southern University in a non-conference match. Memphis, which lost two doubles matches on Friday, came back to win two of the three doubles matches against Southern to go up 1-0 early in the match. The tandem of Majorie Ondeck and Ashley Murdock got their first win of the season at No. 1 doubles, 8-6, and the duo of Ekin Zafir and Amanda Brown bounced back from a loss at No. 2 doubles against Southern Miss to win their No. 3 match, 8-4. The Lady Tigers then closed out the victory with wins at No. 1, 3 and 5 singles, dropping just one match at No. 2 en route the victory. With a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, Ashley Murdock improves her season record to 7-0 overall and 2-0 at No. 1 singles. Marjorie Ondeck's 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles pushes her dual season mark to 4-3, while Ekin Zafir's 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 improved her dual season mark to 2-1. Memphis was to face Murray State at this event, but that match was rescheduled to Tues., Feb. 26th due to rain in the Baton Rouge area. That match will be played at Murray State.
