Women's Tennis Sweeps UL Monroe, 7-0
Feb. 21, 2004
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis women's tennis team (4-2, 1-0 C-USA) got back in the win column after having its three-match win streak snapped earlier in the week at Arkansas-Little Rock with a 7-0 victory over Louisiana-Monroe at the U of M HPER Courts, Saturday. Memphis was without senior Viktoria Gruber for the match, so Marlene Dirnstorfer teamed with Andrea Feichtinger at No. 1 doubles to pick up an 8-2 win, while Yesica Ares and Alex Tjioe moved up to take the No. 2 doubles match, 8-6. Dirnstorfer and Feichtinger needed three sets to complete the sweep, after Kristin Noble and Christina Wieser each shut-out their respective opponents at No. 4 and 5 singles, while Tjioe received a default at the No. 6 singles match due to a short UL Monroe line-up. Memphis will remain at home to face Middle Tennessee, Sunday. That match is slated to begin at 11 a.m. and will be played at the HPER Courts on the U of M campus.
