Women's Tennis Falls to Middle Tennessee

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis women's tennis team fell to 4-3 on the season with a 7-0 loss to Middle Tennessee (6-2), in non-conference action at the U of M HPER Courts, Sunday. The No. 31 ranked doubles team of Manon Kruse and Carien Venter downed the Lady Tiger No. 1 team of Marlene Dirnstorfer and Victoria Gruber, 8-6, while the Middle Tennessee duo of Jennifer Klaschka and Laura McNamara won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. In singles, Kruse, the No. 54 ranked singles player in the country downed Dirnstorfer, 6-3, 6-0, while the Lady Raiders took five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Sophomore Andrea Feichtinger was the only Lady Tiger to take her opponent to more than two sets, coming back from a 6-2 first set loss to win a second set tiebreak, 7-6 (4). But in the super tiebreak, Feichtinger fell 10-3 to complete the Lady Raider sweep. Memphis will travel to Troy, Ala., to face the Trojans of Troy State, Feb. 27th before facing East Tennessee State, the following Saturday. The Lady Tigers will not play again at home until Mar. 19th when they host Murray State. Middle Tennessee hosts Murray State, Wednesday, and Georgia State, next Sunday.
