Short-Handed Lady Tigers Fall to No. 35 Oklahoma, 6-0

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - A depleted Memphis Lady Tiger women's tennis squad fell to No. 35 Oklahoma, 6-0, on Sat., Feb. 27 at the Dills Indoor Tennis Stadium in Fayetteville, Ark. The Lady Tigers' playing without freshman Courtney Collins and senior Amanda Brown who both missed the match due to injury and illness, put up fights in singles and doubles, but were unable to overcome the Sooners in Fayetteville. In singles, Ashley Murdock, a senior from Memphis, Tenn., put up a battle against 76th-ranked singles netter Ana Maria Continescu, but fell 6-4, 7-5, to the Sooner netter. Murdock falls to 8-7 in singles on the season. At the No. 2 singles spot, Marjorie Ondeck, a senior from Monroe, Conn., fell to Oklahoma's Marie-Pier Huet, 6-2, 6-2. Ondeck's record now stands at 4-8 in singles on the season. At No. 3 singles, Maria Kalashnikova upended Andrea Arques-Garcia, 6-2, 6-1. Arques-Garcia falls to 2-8 in singles this season. Kelly Gray lost to Teona Tsertsvadze, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 4 singles. At No. 5 singles, Dara Toulch fell to Kristina Radan, 6-0, 6-0. All of the Lady Tiger netters were playing up two positions from where they usuall play due to the two injuries. Collins usually competes at the No. 2 singles spot for the U of M, while Brown has been competing at No. 4 singles for the Lady Tigers in 2010. In doubles, Murdock and Ondeck were defeated by 29th-rated Constantinescu and Tsertsvadze, 8-4. Murdock and Ondeck are now 4-8 in doubles during the 2010 season. At the No. 2 spot, Gray and Arques-Garcia were defeated by Tara Eckel and Kalashnikova, 8-3.
