Women's Tennis Falls 5-2 to No. 12 Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 22 University of Memphis women's tennis team's (6-3) four-match win streak ended Wednesday night at No. 12 Vanderbilt (7-4) as the Commodores came away with a 5-2 win. Vanderbilt went up 1-0 after winning two tight doubles matches. Tiffany Welcher and Alyssa Hibberd fell 8-6 to Ashleigh Antal and Marie Casares at No. 1 before the duo of Caroline Wegner and Stefanie Mikesz dropped an 8-6 decision at No. 3 to Frances Altick and Georgina Sellyn. Skylar Kuykendall evened the match up at 1-all with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles over Antal. The Commodores came back with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 with Courtney Colton picking up the win over Liza Tymchenko. Vanderbilt stretched its lead to 3-1 as No. 60 Lauren Mira defeated No. 23 Collins, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 1 before Casares clinched the win for the Commodores with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 win over Welcher at the No. 3 spot. Wegner fell at No. 5 to Altick, 6-0, 6-2, before Hibberd came back from a 5-1 deficit in the third set to defeat No. 64 Sellyn, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), at No. 5. Memphis returns to action Sunday with a 12 p.m. MT contest against No. 44 Saint Mary's in Tempe, Ariz.
