No. 27 Memphis Sweeps VCU for 37th-Straight Home Win

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The No. 27 University of Memphis women's tennis team won the doubles point and had much help from the bottom of their lineup to record a 5-0 victory over VCU on Monday afternoon at The Racquet Club of Memphis. The Lady Tigers extended their home win streak to 37 matches and improved to 4-0 at home this season.
In doubles, Memphis (9-5) took an early advantage as Liza Tymchenko and Marta Morga held off a late VCU (7-6) rally at No. 2 to claim an 8-4 victory over Cindy Chala and Ludivine Burguiere. The Lady Tigers jumped out to 4-1 leads at No. 1 and 3, but the Rams quickly made it a contested match before Alyssa Hibberd and Caroline Wegner pulled out an 8-6 win at No. 3 over Salome Kvitashvili and Olga Terteac to give Memphis the 1-0 lead.
Morga extended the lead for the Lady Tigers at No. 5 singles with a dominant 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Olga Barscheuskaya for a 2-0 advantage. With the win, Morga remained undefeated in dual matches at 7-0 and is now 17-5 overall.
At No. 6, Hibberd pushed the Memphis lead to 3-0 as she defeated Burguiere, 6-2, 7-6, for her third-straight victory. Anki Wind then clinched the match for Memphis as she pulled out a three-set win over Kvitashvili, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1, to improve to 8-1 in dual play and 18-9 on the season.
Playing at No. 1 for the first time in her career, Skylar Kuykendall defeated No. 73 Chala, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, for her fifth career win over a ranked opponent to make it a final 5-0 Memphis win.
The Lady Tigers head to Florida this weekend to take on American Athletic Conference foes USF and UCF. Memphis first faces USF on Friday at 10 a.m. (CT) before taking on UCF on Saturday at 11 a.m.
