Memphis Downs Murray State, UT Martin
March 15, 2012 MARTIN, Tenn. - The 55th-ranked Memphis Tigers powered past both Murray State, 6-0, and UT Martin, 6-1, in two dual matches on the road on Thursday. The wins move the Tigers to 10-3 for the season while Murray State falls to 4-7 and UT Martin to 2-8. In the first match of the day, the Blue and Gray swept through all three matches taking the doubles point and cleaning up No. 1-5 singles in straight sets. Later in the day, UT Martin was able to pick up a win at the No. 2 doubles slot, but Memphis notched wins at No. 1 and No. 3 for the 1-0 lead after paired action. The Tigers were up 2-0 after a win at No. 3 singles by No. 77 Stefanie Mikesz, but the Skyhawks put a point on the board next with Alice Laing's defeat of Andrea Arques-Garcia at the No. 6 position. After dropping that match, the rest of the Tigers finished strong, cleaning up the matches at No. 2, 4 and 5 singles to secure the victory. Up next for Memphis is a dual at Kansas State on Sunday, March 18 at noon (CT).
