RICHMOND, Va. - The Memphis women's tennis team fell to the Richmond Spiders, 5-2, on Saturday morning at the Westhampton Tennis Complex in Richmond, Va. With Saturday's loss, the Lady Tigers fall to 8-13 on the season.

In doubles, the Spiders grabbed a 1-0 lead over the Lady Tigers by taking two out of three doubles matches. At the No. 1 spot, Erin Clark and Helen Cunningham defeated Ashley Murdock and Marjorie Ondeck, 8-4. With the loss, Murdock and Ondeck fall to 7-11 on the year.

Courtney Collins and Kelly Gray picked up a 8-2 victory over Kelly Tidwell and Isabel Arana. Collins and Gray improve to 8-6 with Saturday's victory.

At the No. 3 doubles slot, Andre Arques-Garcia and Dara Toulch were defeated by Alexandra Smyth and Sydney Grant, 8-2. Saturday's match was the first time Arques-Garcia and Toulch played as a tandem.

Murdock, a back-to-back All-C-USA selection, picked up a three-set victory over Clark, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(4). Murdock has an overall record of 12-9 to lead the Lady Tigers in overall singles victories on the year.

Collins, a freshman from Fulton, Miss., upended Tidwell, 6-3, 6-0, to improve to 10-8 in singles on the year.

At the No. 3 singles slot, Ondeck fell in three sets to Cunningham, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. Ondeck is 7-10 overall on the year.

At No. 4 singles, Amanda Brown, a senior from Whitby, Ontario, was defeated by Grant, 6-2, 7-6. Brown falls to 5-12 in singles on the season.

At the No. 5 singles spot, Toulch, a senior from Montreal, Quebec, fell to Smyth, 6-0, 6-1. Toulch has an overall mark of 3-5 on the 2010 season.

At No. 6 singles, Gray, a freshman from Murfreesboro, Tenn., fell to Matuszczyk, 6-3, 7-6(4).

 

 

The Lady Tigers will return to the court on Sunday at 9 a.m., with a match against William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
