No. 38 Women's Tennis Falls to No. 16 Baylor, 6-1

WACO, Texas - The No. 38 University of Memphis women's tennis team (11-7) came up short to No. 16 Baylor (13-6) on Thursday night with a 6-1 defeat to the Bears at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Baylor grabbed the 1-0 lead with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The Bears took an advantage as the duo of Blair Shankle and Alex Clay defeated Stefanie Mikesz and Anki Wind, 8-2, at No. 2 before Kiah Generette and Ema Burgic won 8-4 over Alyssa Hibberd and Skylar Kuykendall at No. 3 to take the 1-0 lead.
Baylor extended its lead as No. 74 Burgic was victorious over Kuykendall, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 to give the Bears a 2-0 advantage. No. 48 Jordaan Sanford followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Caroline Wegner at No. 3 for a 3-0 score before No. 34 Generette won 6-3, 6-0 over Mikesz at No. 2 to clinch the match for Baylor.
No. 103 Shankle extended Baylor's lead with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 over Wind, while Clay defeated Hibberd, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 6 to push it to 6-0.
Marta Morga finished the match by recording her 11th-straight win with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at No. 5 over Makenzie Craft. With the win, Morga improved to 11-0 in dual play and 21-5 on the season.
Memphis travels to Denton on Saturday to take on No. 55 North Texas in an 11 a.m. (CT) match at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
