Lady Tigers Fall to No. 56 William & Mary on Sunday

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - The Memphis Lady Tigers suffered a 5-2 loss to No. 56 William & Mary on Sunday at the Busch Tennis Courts in Williamsburg, Va. The Lady Tigers picked up singles wins from Ashley Murdock at the No. 1 spot and Amanda Brown at No. 3 singles, as well as a No. 2 doubles victory from Courtney Collins and Kelly Gray.
With the loss, the Lady Tigers fall to 8-14 season. William & Mary improves to 9-9 on the year.
Murdock, a senior from St. Agnes Academy in Memphis, picked up her 13th singles victory of the season with a three-set victory over the Tribe's Ragini Acharya, 6-1, 0-6, 10-5. Acharya, a senior from Pulaski, Va., picked up a singles victory earlier this season over 84th-ranked Liset Brito of FIU. Murdock has wins over opponents from three ranked foes (Yale, Arkansas and William & Mary) during the 2010 season.
At No. 3 singles, Brown, a senior from Whitby, Ontario, improved to 6-12 in singles on the year after coming back from one set down to upend Nina Vulovich, 4-6, 6-4, 10-7.
At the No. 2 doubles spot, Gray and Collins defeated Anik Cepeda and Marlen Mesgarzadeh, 8-5. The pair of Memphis freshmen have an overall doubles record of 9-6 on the 2010 season to lead all of the Lady Tigers' doubles pairs.
The Lady Tigers will return to court on Wed., Mar. 31 when they play host to Tennessee Tech and Louisiana Monroe at The Racquet Club of Memphis. The matches will mark the Lady Tigers first matches on the recently refurbished outdoor courts at The Racquet Club of Memphis.
