March 29, 2014
DENTON, Texas - The No. 38 University of Memphis women's tennis team tied a single-season program record Saturday afternoon with their sixth win over a ranked opponent as the Lady Tigers defeated No. 55 North Texas, 6-1, at the Waranch Tennis Center.
"We played good today up and down the line. Thursday was tough to take against Baylor," said head coach Lee Taylor Walker. "We didn't play our best and they beat us pretty good. But today was an exceptional recovery and really showed our girls' toughness to respond in a dominant way against a quality team. We are sitting in a good, confident place as we head down the stretch."
Memphis (12-7) took a 1-0 lead early with wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles. The freshmen duo of Marta Morga and Anki Wind defeated Alexis Thoma and Agustina Valenzuela, 8-4, at No. 2 after Caroline Wegner and Stefanie Mikesz lost at No. 1. At No. 3, Skylar Kuykendall and Liza Tymchenko clinched the doubles point for Memphis over North Texas (8-9) by posting an 8-5 victory over Dane Joubert and Anastasiya Shestakova.
