UCF Snaps Women's Tennis Win Streak

ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Memphis saw its six-match win streak come to an end with a 4-3 loss at UCF, Monday. The loss drops Memphis to 13-6, while stretching UCF's win streak to six-straight matches. The match was UCF's final home match of the 2003 season, and the Golden Knights came out on fire, taking the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches, 8-4. The No. 1 Lady Tiger team of Sabrina Lindemann and Monica Gonzalez-Gordo won their No. 1 match, 8-2, and both also contributed with singles wins. Lindemann downed UCF senior Marieke Gunawan, 6-2, 6-4, while Gonzalez-Gordo came back from a 6-3 first set loss to win 6-3, 10-5 over Anna Westin. Freshman Andrea Feichtinger added to her team-leading singles total with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles, but UCF held off the Lady Tigers at No. 3, 4 and 5 to decide the match. Marlene Dirnstorfer's 6-3, 6-3 loss at No. 5 singles snapped an eight-match win streak for the Pindsorf, Austria, native. Dirnstorfer falls to 12-4 in the dual spring season. Memphis returns home to finish its 2003 home schedule with a 2:30 p.m. match against Auburn-Montgomery. That match will be the final home match for seniors Sabrina Lindemann, Monica Gonzalez-Gordo and Sumitra Rao. The Conference USA tournament, which is being held in New Orleans by Tulane University, begins April 12th.
