Lady Tiger Tennis Picks Up First League Win

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - - Freshman Lindsey Wiseman (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest HS) put away an overhead in a second set tiebreak to secure a 4-0 Memphis (8-10, 1-1 C-USA) victory over UTEP in Conference USA action at WellWorx Friday afternoon. The win is Memphis' first league win of the season and also their first C-USA win since a 5-2 win over former C-USA member Saint Louis on Feb. 25, 2005. Memphis began the match with a win of the doubles point, using victories at No. 1 and No. 2 to go up 1-0 in the match. Ashley Murdock (Memphis, Tenn./St. Agnes) then won her fourth straight match at No. 1 6-4, 6-2 over Weronika Bloczynska followed quickly by Marjorie Ondeck's 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles. The No. 3 and 4 matches were closer before Wiseman put the win away for the Lady Tigers with her win in the second set tiebreak, 7-3. The eight team victories are the most for a Lady Tiger team since the 2003-04 team went 12-13 on the year. Memphis will remain home for two more Conference USA matches over the weekend. With rain expected to clear out of the Memphis area by Saturday, the Lady Tigers will host UCF at 1 p.m., Saturday, at Rhodes College on the outdoor courts.
