No. 41 Women's Tennis Sweeps Marquette on Senior Day

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The No. 41 University of Memphis women's tennis team closed out their 2014 home slate in style Sunday afternoon with a 7-0 sweep against Marquette on Senior Day. With the win, the Lady Tigers extended their school record home win streak to 39 matches after a 6-0 mark at home this season, the fifth-straight season with an unblemished home record.
Memphis honored Stefanie Mikesz following doubles play as she played her final match at The Racquet Club of Memphis. The Lady Tigers went 31-0 at home during Mikesz's four years. Mikesz recorded a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 3 over Marquette's Ali Dawson to move her into a tie for sixth all-time in career wins at 164. She also climbed into a tie for sixth in career singles win with her 80th victory as a Lady Tiger.
Memphis (13-7) started off the match taking the doubles point over Marquette (10-9) as Marta Morga and Alyssa Hibberd cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 3 before Liza Tymchenko and Skylar Kuykendall posted an 8-1 victory at No. 1 to give the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Tymchenko extended Memphis' advantage with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win over Vanessa Foltinger at No. 5 for a 2-0 score. Hibberd followed with a win at No. 6, taking down Laia Hernandez Soler, 6-2, 6-2, for a 3-0 lead before Morga clinched the match at No. 4 after a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Aina Hernandez Soler. Morga improved to 23-5 on the season and is now 13-0 in dual play to lead the Lady Tigers in both categories.
Caroline Wegner increased the Memphis lead as she pulled out a 6-3, 7-6 (6) win at No. 2 over Erin Gebes to improve to 3-0 at the position in dual play. Kuykendall added a sixth point for the Lady Tigers with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Ana Pimienta at No. 1 before Mikesz finished the match with her win at No. 3.
Memphis closes out the regular season Saturday when it heads to Tulsa to take on the Golden Hurricane in a 12 p.m. (CT) match at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
