Women's Tennis Drops 5-2 Match to No. 20 Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. - The No. 38 University of Memphis women's tennis team could not hold on to a 2-1 lead Saturday afternoon as No. 20 Tulsa won its eight-straight match against the Lady Tigers with a 5-2 win at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Tulsa (15-4) grabbed the early 1-0 lead by claiming the doubles point with an 8-1 win at No. 1 and an 8-5 decision at No. 3.
However, Memphis (13-8) answered as Anki Wind claimed a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Saana Saarteinen at No. 5 to tie up the match at 1-all. Skylar Kuykendall then delivered for the Lady Tigers at No. 1 with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Yelena Nemchen to give Memphis a 2-1 advantage.
At No. 4, Marcelina Cichon handed Marta Morga her first defeat in dual play this season, pulling out a tight 7-5, 6-4 win to even the match. Tulsa then received wins at the top of the lineup as Renata Kuricova recorded a three-set victory at No. 2 over Caroline Wegner before Rongrong Leenabanchong clinched the match for the Golden Hurricane with a win over Stefanie Mikesz at No. 3. Maria Sant'Anna finished the contest with a three-set super tiebreaker win at No. 6 against Liza Tymchenko for the 5-2 final.
Memphis next competes in the inaugural American Athletic Conference Championships, Apr. 17-20, at the USF Varsity Courts in Tampa, Fla. The Lady Tigers will await to learn their seeding and opponent in the coming days.
